Around The Boz
Around The Boz In 80 Years is an art project by Julien Friedler. It's a collective work open to everyone, on the basis of answering to 6 questions gathered on the Boz Questionnaire. These questionnaire will be collected, all around the world, during an expected period of 80 years. They will be placed in cases, in turn placed in columns. Each case will receive 500 questionnaires; each columns will contain 10 cases. The result will constitute a "Forest of souls". The project began on December 2nd, 2006. Currently (September 2007) almost 10 000 questionnaire have been collected, from Argentina, Rwanda, Belgium, France, USA, Russia, China, Chile and Uruguay. More info and news on .

Why another group ?
Well because some photos are made with such imagination that they virtually transport you in another world. They are not just fun, they also are reflecting a minority manner of seeing life, with wide open eyes and wide open smiles.
I wish this group can become an amazing and joyfull photo-slideshow to look at and "make your day" each time you have a look at it.
This group will be very selective on its content (don't post here unless it's very original- wait at least that you have a few persons commenting it on your picture).
So don't get offended if your picture get removed from the pool- it just mean we feel your picture seems inapropriate to the pool, but it is by no mean an intent to judge its quality.
Now fasten your belt, your cloud-ship is ready!
Watch out! A dreaming place or texture, etc, won't make it. It has to have a concept and an imaginative one behind this. I hope you understand this. Here are good examples of what we want to find here

D’après le US Holocaust Museum de Washington, DC, le terme holocauste désigne une campagne de persécution et d’annihilation systématique, bureaucratique et soutenue par un Etat. Engagé avant même la seconde guerre mondiale par des lois raciales discriminatoires, le dessein nazi visait l’annihilation de tous les Juifs européens. Ce groupe se fixe pour but de rassembler 6 millions de photos d’êtres humains – une personne par photo – pour constituer un mémorial rappelant le nombre considérable de victimes du nazisme, juives et non juives. Même si les Juifs étaient les premières cibles du racisme nazi, d’autres groupes étaient destinés au génocide : ainsi périrent plusieurs dizaines de milliers de Roms (Gitans), comme quelque 200 000 handicapés physiques et mentaux. Comme la tyrannie nazie s’étendit en Europe, le massacre se poursuivit : plus de trois millions de prisonniers de guerres Soviétiques moururent de faim, de maladie ou victimes de mauvais traitements. Les Nazis ont assassiné des dizaines de milliers d’intellectuels et de chefs religieux polonais non juifs et déporté des millions de Polonais et de Soviétiques pour les soumettre au travail forcé. Dès son origine, le régime nazi persécutait les homosexuels et d’autres groupes jugés socialement inacceptables. Des milliers de dissidents politiques (parmi lesquels communistes, socialistes et syndicalistes) et religieux (comme les témoins de Jéhovah) furent également visés. Nombre d’entre ces derniers périrent en prison ou victimes de mauvais traitements. L’Assemblée générale des Nations Unies réaffirme que l’Holocauste, qui « s’est traduit par l’extermination d’un tiers du peuple juif et d’innombrables membres d’autres minorités, demeurera à jamais pour tous les peuples un rappel des dangers de la haine, de l’intolérance, du racisme et des préjugés ». Aidez-nous à exercer notre devoir de mémoire vis-à-vis de l’Holocauste en ajoutant vos photos – des photos de vous ou de vos proches – dans ce groupe. Ajoutez autant de photos que vous le souhaitez, mais seulement une par modèle, de manière à ce que nous puissions nous approcher du nombre de 6 millions de photos de personnes différentes. Atteindre ce but prendra du temps – il s’agit de remplir 200 000 pages contenant chacune 30 photos – mais nous nous donnons 6 ans pour l’atteindre. Visual anthropology is a subfield of sociocultural anthropology that developed out of the theory and practice of ethnographic photography, film and since the mid-1990s, new media. It also encompasses the anthropological study of representation, including areas such as performance, museums, art, and the production and reception of mass media. Visual anthropology (and ethnographic films and photos made by anthropologists) have also influenced films in popular culture: Brazil. The origins of visual anthropology are located in the invention and application of photographic technologies to the study of human culture and diversity (Ruby 1996). Some of the earliest photography and filmmaking was trained on traditional anthropological informants. Anthropologists and non-anthropologists conducted much of this work in the spirit of salvage ethnography or attempts to record for posterity the ways-of-life of societies assumed doomed to extinction (see, for instance, the Native American photography of Edward Curtis). The history of anthropological filmmaking is intertwined with that of non-fiction and documentary filmmaking. According to film historian Erik Barnouw (1993), some of the first motion pictures of the ethnographic other were made with Lumière equipment (Promenades des Éléphants à Phnom Penh, 1901). Robert Flaherty, probably best known for his films chronicling the lives of Arctic peoples (Nanook of the North, 1922), became a filmmaker in 1913 when his supervisor suggested that he take a camera and equipment with him on an expedition north. Flaherty focused on “traditional” Eskimo ways of life, omitting to that end any signs of modernity among his film subjects (even to the point of refusing to use a rifle to help kill a walrus his informants had harpooned as he filmed them, according to Barnouw; this scene made it into Nanook where it served as evidence of their "pristine" culture). This pattern would persist in many ethnographic films to follow (see as an example Robert Gardner's Dead Birds). By the 1940s, anthropologists such as Hortense Powdermaker (Hollywood, the Dream Factory, 1950), Gregory Bateson and Margaret Mead (Trance and Dance in Bali, 1952) were bringing anthropological perspectives to bear on mass media and visual representation. The work of Bateson and Mead as well as that of anthropologically-minded filmmakers such as Tim Asch, Robert Gardner and John Marshall led to the realization there existed a need to systematically study, understand and produce ethnographic films in a scholarly manner. Visual anthropology first found purchase in an academic setting in 1958 with the creation of the Film Study Center at Harvard's Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography (Ruby 2001). At present, the Society for Visual Anthropology (SVA) represents the subfield in the United States as a section of the American Anthropological Association.

Burlesque
This is not a pinup/model group. This is a group for burlesque photography. In particular burlesque performance photography. Not so much modeling, or pinups, or the like. However, you have Dirty Martini modeling, I'll likely allow it. Preferably these should be original photos that you have taken, but scans of classic photos of bygone days is fine, so long as you are not violating copyright. If you wonder what burlesque is, check this link for a bit of history from Wikipedia. Other good resources are of course G-Strings Forever, Jo's site. Or the Exotic World site. But for the most part burlesque is a generally a humorous or irreverant perfomance art with dancing and striptease. This group was created Dec 22, 2004.

Reasons Of Our Humanity
This group is about ordinary people, places, pets, and all things that if allowed will go virtually unnoticed. Things, as such, ordinary people in ordinary places doing ordinary things. Recycle Restore Refurbish Remodel Reuse Remake
This group is for photos of fabulous things created from unappealing, unusable or just plain ugly stuff. Before and After photos are especially encouraged! These kind of projects are especially appealing as a way of slowing the use of natural resources and the filling of dumps and landfills. But we also just like to see the way tired things can look new and interesting again.
Red Rule
I learned a pretty neat rule in photography -- "If you see red - shoot it!" -- so - this is a place for pictures which contain red!

Shadows, shapes of the objects in outline - the part of us that seems glued to the ground. People shadows, building shadows any kind of shadows.
Please consider other posters in the group and do not post more than a 4 photos in a row. This group moves pretty quickly and sooner than you realize someone will have posted and you can add some more.
When posting text-topics, please keep the subjects related to shadows. Other potential spammy topics will be deleted/hidden. When responding to others' comments please respect the right of others to have an opinion different from yours - you don't have to like the opinion, but respect the person.
Shadows are in reality, when the sun is shining, the most conspicuous thing in a landscape, next to the highest lights.

Quite simply photographs of other people taking photographs! Or even reflections of yourself taking photographs! The ultimate group in photography eating itself! Just to make it clear, the person photographed should clearly be in the process of "taking" a photo, not merely holding a camera. However, there should still be a camera in view - we don't simply want self portraits here taken on self timers or cable release. My fault for confusing a few on this. Sorry.
